Effects of cartilaginous rings on airflow and particle transport through simplified and realistic models of human upper respiratory tracts

摘要 Inthepresentstudy,computationalfluiddynamics(CFD)isusedtoinvestigateinspiratoryandexpiratoryairflowcharacteristicsinthehumanupperrespiratorytractforthepurposeofidentifyingtheprobablelocationsofparticledepositionandthewallinjury.Computedtomography(CT)scandatawasusedtoreconstructathreedimensionalrespiratorytractfromtracheatofirstgenerationbronchi.Tocompare,asimplifiedmodelofrespiratorytractbasedonWeibelwasalsousedinthestudy.Thesteadystateresultsareobtainedforanairflowrateof45L/min,correspondingtotheheavybreathingcondition.Thevelocitydistribution,wallshearstress,staticpressureandparticledepositionarecomparedforinspiratoryflowsinsimplifiedandrealisticmodelsandexpiratoryflowsinrealisticmodelonly.Theresultsshowthatthelocationofcartilaginousringsissusceptibletowallinjuryandlocalparticledeposition.
