Eatmore‘green’oreat‘fiveaday’isoneofthemostimportanthealthylifestylebehavioursinthe21century.Aimingtofightcancereffectively,morethanhalfpatientsusevitaminsorherbsconcurrentlywithconventionalanticancertreatment.Flavonoidsorpolyphenolsexistinginvegetables,fruitsandgreenteaarecommonplantpigmentswithantioxidantpropertiesandconsideredactingascancerpreventingoranti-canceragents.RecentlyitwasfoundthatsomeflavonoidsandvitaminCindietorsupplementshaveantagonisticeffectwiththeanti-cancerdrugbortezomib.Bortezomibisaspecificinhibitorforproteasomeandiscurrentlyusedfortreatmentofrelapsedandrefractorymultiplemyeloma.Despiteitssuccessfulratesintreatingmultiplemyelomaandothersolidtumors,itisunabletokillleukemiccellsintheblood.ItwasrecentlyrevealedthatsomeflavonoidsandvitaminCpresentingreenleavesandgreenteasinthebloodcanneutralizebortezomibbydirectlyinteractionbetweentwochemicals.Herewesummarizewhydietaryflavonoidsshouldbeavoidedinpatientswhotakebortezomibaschemotherapeuticdrug.
