摘要
Organic-inorganicinteractionsoccurringinpetroleum-relatedmudvolcanoescanhelppredictthechemicalprocessesthatareresponsibleformethaneemissionstotheatmosphere.SevensamplesofmudbrecciadirectlyejectedfromonecraterwerecollectedintheDushanzimudvolcano,alongwithoneargillitesampleoftheoriginalreddishhostrocksdistalfromthecrater,forcomparisonpurposes.ThemineralandchemicalcompositionsaswellasironspeciesofallsamplesweredeterminedusingXRD,XRFandM?ssbauerspectroscopy,respectively.Theresultsindicatethataseriesofmarkedreactionsoccurredinthemudvolcanosystems,morespecificallyinthemudbrecciawhencomparedtotheoriginalrocks.Changesmainlyincluded:(1)someconversionofclaymineralsfromsmectiteintochloriteandillite,andtheprecipitationofsecondarycarbonatemineralssuchascalciteandsiderite;(2)silicondepletionandsignificantelementalenrichmentofiron,manganese,magnesium,calciumandphosphorus;and(3)transformationofironfromferricspeciesinhematiteandsmectiteintoferrousspeciesinsiderite,chloriteandillite.ThesegeochemicalreactionslikelyinducedthecolorchangesoftheoriginalreddishNeogeneargillitetothegrayorblackmudbreccia,asaresultofreductionofelementsand/oralterationofmineralsassociatedwiththeoxidationofhydrocarbons.Ourresultsalsosuggestthatgreenhousegasesemittedfromthemudvolcanoesareloweredthroughaseriesofmethaneoxidationreactionsandcarbonfixation(i.e.,throughcarbonateprecipitation).
