Fracturetoughnessisoneofthecrucialmechanicalpropertiesofbrittlematerialssuchasglassesandceramicswhichdemonstratecatastrophicfailuremodes.Conventionalstandardizedtestingmethodsadoptedforfracturetoughnessdeterminationrequirelargespecimenstosatisfytheplanestraincondition.Asforsmallspecimens,indentationisapopular,sometimesexclusivetestingmodetodeterminefracturetoughnessforitcanbeperformedonasmallflatareaofthespecimensurface.Thisreviewfocusesonthedevelopmentofindentationfracturetheoriesandtherepresentativetestingmethods.Crackingpatterndependentonindentergeometryandmaterialpropertyplaysanimportantroleinmodeling,andisthemainreasonforthediversityofindentationfracturetheoriesandtestingmethods.Alongwiththesimplicityofspecimenrequirementisthecomplexityofmodelingandanalysiswhichaccountsforthesemi-empiricalfeaturesofindentationfracturetests.Someunresolvedissuesshapingthegapbetweenindentationfracturetestsandstandardizationarealsodiscussed.更多还原
