Inthiswork,ahybridstructureconsistingofamulticomponentgermanateglassmicrospherecontainingbismuthasagainmediumisproposedandpresented.Thebismuth-dopedgermanateglassmicrosphereswerefabricatedfromaglassfibertipwithnoprecipitationofthebismuthmetal.Couplingwithafibertaper,thebismuth-dopedmicrospheresingle-modelaserwasobservedtolaseataround1305.8nmusing808nmexcitation.Thelowthresholdofabsorbedpumppowerat215μWmakesthismicrolaserappealingforvariousapplications,includingtunablelasersforarangeofpurposesintelecommunication,biomedical,andopticalinformationprocessing.
