简介:TheNearbySupernovaFactoryProjectwillprovideauniqueopportunitytobringtogethersimulationandobservationtoaddresscrucialproblmsinparticleandnuclearphysics.ItsdgoalistosignificantlyenhanceourunderstandingofthenuclearprocessesinsupernovaeandtoimproveourabilitytousebothTypeIaandTypeIIsupernovaeasreferencelightsources(standardcandles)inprecisionmeasurementsofcosmologicalparameters.Overthepastseveralyears,astronomersandastrophysicistshavebeenconductingin-depthskysearcheswiththegoalofidentifyingsupernovaeintheirearliestevolutionarystagesand,duringthe4to8weeksoftheirmost"explosive~activity,measuretheirchangingmagnitudeandspectra.ThesearchprogramcurrentlyunderdevelopmentatLBNLisanearth-basedobservationprogramutilizingobservationalinstrumentsatHaleakalaandMaunaKea,HawaiiandMt.Palomar,California,Thisnewprogramprovidesademandingtestbedfortheintegrationofcomputational,datamanagementandcollaboratorytechnologies.Aciticalelementofthiseffortistheuseofemergingworkflowmanagementtoolstopermitcollaboratingscientiststomanagedataprocessingandstorageandtointegrateadvancedsupernovasimulationintothereal-timecontroloftheexperiments.Thispaperdescribestheworkflowmanagementframeworkfortheproject,discussessecurityandresourceallocationrequirementsandreviewsemergingtoolstosupportthisimportantaspectofcollaborativework.
