  • 简介:Anoperationalthree-dimensionaloilspillmodelisdevelopedbytheNationalMarineEnvironmentalForecastingCenter(NMEFC),StateOceanicAdministration,China,andthemodelhasbeenrunningfor9a.OnJune4and17,2011,oilisspilledintotheseawaterfromtwoseparateoilplatformsintheBohaiBay,i.e.,PlatformsBandCofPenglai19-3oilfield.Thespillcausespollutionofthousandsofsquarekilometresofseaarea.TheNMEFC'soilspillmodelisemployedtostudythePenglai19-3oil-spillpollutionduringJunetoAugust2011.ThewindfinalanalysisdataoftheNMEFC,whichisbasedonaweatherresearchandforecasting(WRF)model,areanalyzedandcorrectedbycomparingwiththeobservationdata.Acorrectedcurrentfiledisobtainedbyforcingtheprincetonoceanmodel(POM)withthecorrectedwindfield.Withtheabovemarineenvironmentalfieldforcingtheoilspillmodel,theoilmassbalanceandoildistributioncanbeproduced.Thesimulationisvalidatedagainsttheobservation,anditisconcludedthattheoilspillmodeloftheNMEFCisabletocommendablysimulatetheoilspilldistribution.ThustheNMEFC'soilspillmodelcanprovideatoolinanenvironmentalimpactassessmentaftertheevent.

  • 简介:Ananalysisofhigh-resolutionprecipitationdatafor1978-2006indicatesthattheprecipitationoversouthernChinainJuneexperiencedalow-valueperiodin1980-1989andahigh-valueperiodin1992-2001.Italsorevealsthatexceptionalheavy(light)precipitationoccurredinJune2005(2004)since1951.Forthesevariationsonbothinterdecadalandinterannualtimescales,fairlyuniformanomaliesofprecipitationappearedoverVietnam,southernChina,andsoutheasternChina.Correspondingtopositive(negative)precipitationanomalies,anomaloussoutheasterly(northwesterly)flowat850hPareachedVietnamandanomaloussouthwesterly(northeasterly)flowexpandedtothecoastalregionsofsouthernandsoutheasternChina.Precedenttothepositive(negative)precipitationanomaliesduring1992-2001(1980-1989),positive(negative)anomaliesofseasurfacetemperatureappearedovertheextratropicalnorthwesternPacificinthewinterandspringseasons,associatedwithastrong(weak)extensionofthewarmKuroshioCurrentthataffectsthecoastalregionofeasternChina.Theabove-normalprecipitationinJune2005wasassociatedwiththepseudo-ENSOeventinthepreviouswinter,andthebelow-normalprecipitationinJune2004wasassociatedwithnegativeanomaliesofseasurfacetemperatureovertheequatorialcentralPacificandpositiveanomaliesovertheequatorialwesternandeasternPacific.

  • 简介:OnJune22,1518,alargeearthquake,measuringM71/2,occurredoffshorewestofSeoul,KoreainthesouthernYellowSea.ThisearthquakeaffectedthewholeKoreanPeninsula,andcauseddamagetothecoastalareassuchasSeoul,wheretheseismicintensitywasdegreeⅧ.Aftershockactivitylastedformorethanonemonth.TheearthquakealsoaffectedtheEasternChinaregion.ThisearthquakewaspossiblyrelatedtotheactivityofthewesternmarginfaultzoneoftheKoreanPeninsula(theeasternmarginfaultzoneofthesouthernYellowSea).Theepicenteroftheearthquakewaslocated36.5°Nand125.2°E.

  • 简介:BasedontheNCEP/NCARreanalysisdataandtheobservedprecipitationdatainthesouthofChinafrom1958to2000,theimpactof30to60dayoscillationofatmosphericheatsourcesonthedroughtandfloodeventsinJuneinthesouthofChinaisdiscussed.Duringtheflood(drought)events,thereexistsananomalouslow-frequencyanticyclone(cyclone)atthelowlevelofthetroposphereovertheSouthChinaSeaandthenorthwesternPacific,accompaniedwithanomalouslow-frequencyheatsinks(heatsources),whilethereexistsananomalouslow-frequencycyclone(anticyclone)withanomalousheatsources(sinks)overtheareafromthesouthofChinatothesouthofJapan.Onaverage,thephaseevolutionofthelow-frequencyindroughteventsis7to11daysaheadofthatinfloodeventsinMaytoJuneinthesouthofChina.Infloodevents,low-frequencyheatsourcesandcyclonesarepropagatednorthwardfromthesouthernSouthChinaSea,northwestwardfromthewarmpoolofthewesternPacificandwestwardfromthenorthwesternPacificaround140°E,whichhaveveryimportantimpactontheabundantrainfallinJuneinthesouthofChina.However,indroughtevents,thenorthwardpropagationsofthelow-frequencyheatsourcesandcyclonesfromtheSouthChinaSeaanditsvicinityareratherlatecomparedwiththoseinfloodevents,andthereisnoobviouswestwardpropagationoftheheatsourcesfromthenorthwesternPacific.Thetimingofthelow-frequencyheatsourcepropagationhasremarkableimpactontheJunerainfallinthesouthofChina.

  • 简介:TheNCEP/NCARIIdailymeanreanalysisdataandobservedprecipitationdataareemployedtoinvestigatethewestwardextensionofthewesternPacificsubtropicalhigh(WPSH)duringtheheavyrainperiodoverthesouthernChinainJune2005.Resultsshowthattheremayexistarelationshipbetweentheeast-westshiftoftheWPSHandtheprocessofasouthernChinaheavyrain.TheanalysisindicatesthattheverticalmotionintheWPSHareaismainlycausedbythelatentheatreleaseofmonsoonrainbeltsonitsnorthernandsouthernsides.TheverticalmotioncouldcausetheaccumulationofairmassinthecenterandwestoftheWPSH,whichleadstoitsstrengthening.TheappearanceofthenorthernandsouthernmonsoonrainbeltscouldnotonlyenhancetheWPSHbystrengtheningthedescendingdraft,butalsoexcitethedevelopmentofpositivevorticityandrestricttheWPSH'smovementinthenorth-southdirection.Moreover,theIndianmonsoonrainfalltothewestoftheWPSHmayexcitethedevelopmentofanticyclonicvorticityonitseasternside,whichleadstothewestwardextensionoftheWPSH.

  • 简介:IncontrasttopreviousstudiesthathavetendedtofocusontheinfluenceofthetotalArcticsea-icecoverontheEastAsiansummertripolerainfallpattern,thepresentstudyidentifiestheBarentsSeaasthekeyregionwheretheJunesea-icevariabilityexertsthemostsignificantimpactsontheEastAsianAugusttripolerainfallpattern,andexplorestheteleconnectionmechanismsinvolved.TheresultsrevealthatareductioninJuneseaiceexcitesanomalousupwardairmotionduetostrongnear-surfacethermalforcing,whichfurthertriggersameridionalAnomalousdownwardmotionthereforeformsovertheCaspianoverturningwave-likepatternextendingtomidlatitudes.Sea,whichinturninduceszonallyorientedoverturningcirculationalongthesubtropicaljetstream,exhibitingtheeast-westRossbywavetrainknownastheSilkRoadpattern.ItissuggestedthattheBoninhigh,asubtropicalanticyclonepredominantnearSouthKorea,showsasignificantanomalyduetotheeastwardextensionoftheSilkRoadpatterntoEastAsia.AsapossibledescendingbranchoftheHadleycell,theBoninhighanomalyultimatelytriggersameridionaloverturning,establishingthePacific-Japanpattern.ThisinturninducesananomalousanticycloneandcyclonepairoverEastAsia,andatripoleverticalconvectionanomalymeridionallyorientedoverEastAsia.Consequently,atripolerainfallanomalypatternisobservedoverEastAsia.Resultsfromnumericalexperimentsusingversion5oftheCommunityAtmosphereModelsupporttheinterpretationofthischainofevents.
