  • 简介:Theoperationprincipleofanarrayedwaveguidegrating(AWG)multiplexerisintroducedandthe4×4AWGwithfollowingdesignparametersisdiscussedindetail,suchasthechoiceofwavelength,theneighboringarrayedwaveguidedistanceΔL,thechannelfrequencyintervalΔf,andthefreespectralrange.Thestructureof4×4AWGisdesignedandtheresultofstimulatedtestisalsogiven.Analysisshowsthatthe4×4AWGischaracterizedbyawidedynamicrange,lowcrosstalk,betterspectrumproperties,andacompactstructure.

  • 简介:Thequicklyincreasingdatatransferloadrequiresanurgentrevolutionincurrentopticalcommunication.Orbitalangularmomentum(OAM)multiplexingisapotentialcandidatewithitsabilitytoconsiderablyenhancethecapacityofcommunication.However,thelackofacompact,efficient,andintegratedOAM(de)multiplexerpre-ventsitfrombeingwidelyapplied.Byattachingvortexgratingsontothefacetsofafew-modefiber,wedem-onstrateanintegratedfiber-basedOAM(de)multiplexer.AvortexgratingfabricatedonthefiberfacetenablesthedirectmultiplexingofOAMstatesatoneportandthedemultiplexingofOAMstatesattheotherport.Themeasuredbiterrorrateofthecarriersignalafterpropagatingthrougha5-kmfew-modefiberconfirmsthevalidityandeffectivenessoftheproposedapproach.Theschemeoffersadvantagesinfuturehigh-capacityOAMcom-municationbasedonopticalfiber.

  • 简介:A16-channeldualtuningwavelengthdivisionmultiplexer/demultiplexerbasedonsilicononinsulatorplatformisdemonstrated,whichisbothpeakwavelengthtunableandoutputopticalpowertunable.Thewavelengthdivisionmultiplexer/demultiplexerconsistsofanarrayedwaveguidegratingforwavelengthdivisionmultiplexing/demultiplexing,aheaterforpeakwavelengthtuningandavariableopticalattenuatorbasedonp–i–ncarrier-injectionstructureforopticalpowertuning.Theexperimentalresultsshowthattheinsertionlossonchipofthedeviceis3.7dB–5.7dBandthecrosstalkis7.5dB–9dB.Forthetunabilityofthepeakwavelength,1.058-nmwavelengthtunabilityisachievedwith271.2-mWpowerconsumption,andtheaveragemodulationefficiencyis3.9244nm/W;forthetunabilityoftheopticalpower,theopticalpowerequalizationisachievedinall16channels,20-dBattenuationisachievedwith144.07-mWpowerconsumption,andtheraise/falltimeofVOAis35ns/42ns.

  • 简介:TheperiodiccellstreamisaveryimportantmemberamongtheinputtrafficsourcesinATMnetworks.Inthispaper,afinite-bufferedATMmultiplexerwithtrafficsourcescomposedofaperiodiccellstream,multiplei.i.dBernoullicellstreamsandburstytwo-stateMarkovModulatedBernoulliProcess(MMBP)cellstreamsisexactlyanalyzed.Theprobabilitymassfunctionofqueuingdelay,theautocorrelationandpowerspectrumofdelayjitterforthisperiodiccellstreamarederived.TheanalysisisusedtoexposethebehaviorofdelayjitterforaperiodiccellstreamthroughanATMmultiplexerinaburstytrafficenvironment.Thesimulationresultsindicatethattheanalyticalresultsareaccurate.

  • 简介:Wehavedesignedandrealizedanathermal4-channelwavelength(de-)multiplexerinsiliconnitride(SIN).Minimizedthermalsensitivityisachievedinawidewavelengthrangebyusingwideandnarrowwaveguideswithlowanddifferentthermal-opticcoefficientsinthetwoarmsofMach-Zehnderinterferometers(MZIs).TheSiNcorelayerandSiO2claddinglayersaredepositedbyalow-temperatureplasma-enhancedchemicalvapordep-ositionprocess.ThefabricatedMZIfilterexhibitsathermalsensitivitywithin4-2.0pm/℃inawavelengthrangeof55nmtonear1300nm.Then,anathermal(de-)multiplexerbasedoncascadedMZIshasbeendemonstratedwithacrosstalk〈-22dBandathermalsensitivity〈4.8pm/℃forallfourchannels,reducedby77%comparedtoaconventionalSiN(de-)multiplexer.OwingtothepassiveoperationandcompatibilitywiththeCMOSback-endprocess,ourdeviceshavepotentialapplicationsin3Dintegrationofphotonicsandelectronics.

  • 简介:Anoveldesignofatwo-channelopticaladd–dropmultiplexerbasedonaself-rolled-upmicrotube(SRM)ispresented.ThisdesignconsistsofanSRMthathasaparaboliclobe-likepatternalongthetube'saxialdirection,aswellasstraightsiliconwaveguidesanda180°waveguidebend.TheverticalconfigurationoftheSRMandwaveguidesisanalyzedbythecoupledmodetheoryforachievingtheoptimumgap.Inthecriticalcouplingregime,whenthedeviceservesasanopticaldemultiplexer,theminimuminsertionlossis1.94dB,andthemaximumchannelcrosstalkis-6.036dB.Also,asanopticalmultiplexer,themaximumcrosstalkbecomes-11.9dB.

  • 简介:Wehavedevelopedacost-effectiveandhighlycompact100-Gb/scoarsewavelengthdivisionmultiplexing(CWDM)transmitteropticalsubassembly(TOSA)usinglens-freehybridintegration.Toachievelargealignmenttolerances,distributedfeedbacklaserdiodes(DFB-LDs)arebutt-coupledtoafour-channelsilica-basedplanarlightwavecircuit(PLC)arrayedwaveguidegrating,withthesiliconsub-mountsandPLCadhesivelybonded.Then,aflexibleprintedcircuitisemployedtoconnecttheinternalDFB-LDsandtheexterioroftheTOSApackageforradiofrequencysignaltransmission,eliminatingtheexpensiveceramicfeed-through.ThepackagedCWDMTOSA,whichis15.8mm×7.0mm×6.0mminsize,showsaside-modesuppressionratioof>40dB,a3dBbandwidthof>18GHz,anderror-freetransmissionwithanaverageopticaloutputpowerof>0dBmanddynamicextinctionratioof>4.0dBat25.78125Gb/sovera10kmsingle-modefiberforallfourlanes.
