简介:Thispapertracesevidencefromneurobehaviouralresearchshowinghowlanguagefunctionsoccurinthebrainandsupporttheefficacyofdramaasamethodologyinalllanguagelearning.AccordingtoPribram’sholographicviewofthebrain,move-mentisintegraltothetransferenceofvocabularyfromtheposte-riorconvexitytothefrontalcortexwherewordsaretransformedintomeaningviapragmaticprocessingmechanismsandthenpro-ducedaslanguageinthemidbrainmotorstructurewhichisalsothecenterofemotion.Dramaismovementwithemotion.Wordswhichbecomeamplifiedwithmeaningduringthedramat-icprocesstraverseneuronalpathwaysfromthelexicographic,posteriorbraintotherightforebrainandconvergeinvocalex-pressioninthecentrencephalicmechanism.Withoutsuchmove-ment,meaningandoutputdonotoccur.Wordsimpregnatedwithmeaningintheemotionalmovementofthedramaticprocessparalleldrama-languagemovementswithinthebrainsothatlearningbecomesdeeplyembedded,retainedandeasilyrecalled.Testeddramamethodswhichreinforceorimprintsuchintra-brainlanguagefunctionsarebrieflyreviewedasisselecteddrama-languageresearchsupportingthedrama-brain-languageconcep-tualframeworkofholisticlanguagelearningtheory.Itisarguedthatlearningasecondlanguageaswellasafirstlanguagethroughdrama,thelanguageartformwhichimbuesthenarra-tiveandlanguagestructuresofanyculture,constitutesqualityeducation.
