ThispaperexplorestheadvantagesofresearchinrelationtoELTpracticeinChinaandincomparisonwiththeothertwosourcesofhumanknowledge,i.e.experienceandreasoning.Itthenelaboratesthefourkindsofstudy:receptivestudy,productivestudy,criticalstudyandcreativestudyandproposesaprac-ticeofever-advancingintegrationofdifferenttypesofstudy.Itfinallydiscussespossiblerelationshipsbe-tweenstudyandresearchandsuggestsresearch-basedstudyandstudy-orientedresearchastwopotentialap-proachestomutualstimulationbetweenstudyandre-searchinELTpracticeinChina.
