Inthepresentpaper,theclinicalcurativeeffectsofcatgutembeddingtherapyandtraditionalacupuncturetherapyfortreatmentoflumbarmusclestrainwerecompared.Thesameacupointswereusedinbothgroups.Resultsshowedthattheeffectiverateswere100%and92.5%respectivelyin80casesofthecatgutembeddinggroupand40casesoftheacupuncturegroup.Therewasasignificantdifferencebetweenthetwogroups(P<0.005).Itindicatesthatthecatgutembed-dingtherapyisaneffectivemethodfortreatmentoflumbarmusclestrain.
