Wetheoreticallyinvestigatetheclassicalanalogofelectromagneticallyinducedtransparency(EIT)andelectromagneticallyinducedabsorption(EIA)inaplanarmetamaterialatopticalfrequency,whichoriginatesfromdestructiveandconstructiveinterferencebetweendarkandradiativeelements.Themetamaterialconsistsoftwocoupledresonatorswithdifferentgeometries.AnEIT-liketransparentwindowwithlowabsorptionisobservedandfoundtobestronglya?ectedbyresonantstatesoftheresonators.ThetransitionbetweentheEITandEIAisachievedbychangingthesplitwidthandcouplingdistance.Theabsorptionisenhancedupto2.5timescomparedwiththedipolarcase.TheexcitationofthedarkmodeisveryimportantforEIT-andEIA-likeresponsesoftheproposedmetamaterial.TheEITandEIAphenomenao?erapotentialmethodformanipulatingelectromagneticresponseinmetamaterial-baseddevices.
