Anoveladaptiveswitchingfilter(ASF)basedondirectionaldetectionisproposedfordenoisingtheimagesthatarehighlycorruptedbyimpulsenoise.Theproposedalgorithmemploysanefficientnoisedetectionmechanism.Itfirstemploysanefficientmethodtoestimatethedifferencesbetweenthecurrentpixelanditsneighborsalignedwith28directions.Thecurrentnoisepixelisreplacedbyamedianorameanvaluewithinanadaptivefilterwindowwithrespecttodifferentnoisedensities.Experimentalresultsshowthattheproposedapproachcannotonlyachieveverylowmiss-detectionratioandfalse-alarmratioevenuptohighnoisecorruption,butalsopreservethedetailedinformationofanimageverywell.
