Psychologicaldepressionisdrawingaccumulatingattentionnowadays,duetotheskyrocketingincidenceworldwideandtheenormousburdensitincurs.Physicalexercisehasbeenlongrecognizedforitstherapeuticeffectsondepressivedisorders,althoughknowledgeoftheunderlyingmechanismsremainslimited.Suppressedhippocampalneurogenesisinadultbrainshasbeenregarded,atleastpartly,contributivetodepression,whereasphysicalexercisethatrestoresneurogenesisaccordinglyexertstheanti-depressiveaction.Severalrecentpublicationshavesuggestedthepotentialroleofadiponectin,aproteinhormonesecretedbyperipheralmatureadipocytes,inmediatingphysicalexercise-triggeredenhancementofhippocampalneurogenesisandalleviationofdepression.Here,webrieflyreviewthesenovelfindingsanddiscussthepossibilityofcounteractingdepressionbymodulatingadiponectinsignalinginthehippocampuswithinterventionsincludingphysicalexerciseandadministrationofpharmacologicalagents.更多还原
