Thedielectricbarrierdischarge(DBD)intheglowregimeinneonhasbeeninvestigatedbyexperimentandtwo-dimensional(2D)fluidmodeling.ThedischargewascarriedoutinaplanarDBDsystemwithsegmented-electrodesdrivenbysquare-wavevoltage.TheresultsshowthattheglowDBDoriginatesinthecenteroftheelectrodeandexpandsoutwardtotheelectrodeedgeduringeachhalfcycleofthevoltage,formingaradialstructure.Thedischargedecaysfirstlyintheinnerareabutsustainslongerintheedgearea,showingareverseddischargearea.Thedischargecannotcompletelycovertheentireelectrodesurface,butremainsaborderofnon-orweakdischarge.Thefluidmodelingshowsasimilarresultinagreementwiththeexperiments.Thesimulationsindicatethattheelectricfieldintheedgeareaisdistortedduetotheboundaryeffectsothattheelectricfieldandchargedistributionaredifferentfromthatintheinnerpart.Thedistortedfieldreducesthelongitudinalcomponentneartheedgeandcausesthelocalfieldtobelowerthanthatinthecenter,andhencemakesthedischargebehindhand.Italsoinducesatransversefieldthatmakesthedischargeextendradiallyoutwardtotheedge.TheboundaryeffectplaysanimportantroleintheglowDBDstructure.
