Softmaterialisbecomingincreasinglyimportanttomanyindustries,whichleadstothedemandforabetterunderstandingofitsmechanicalpropertiesunderlargedeformation.Inthispaper,atechniqueofintegratingthedigitalmoirémethodandembedded-gratingapproachispresentedforinvestigatingmechanicalbehaviorsofavulcanizedsiliconerubberincontactwithawedge-shapedindenter.Twodistinctdeformationsectorsareobservedfromtheexperimentalresult.Asimplewayofcomputingstrainisalsopresentedbyanalysinggriddeformationwithintheframeworkofgeometricalnonlinearity.Threeregionswereobservedfromstraindistributionalongthehorizontaldirection:thecontactregion,thesink-inregionandthefar-fieldregion.Moreover,theextentofthestickyregionandthatoftheslippyregionwithinthecontactinterfacearedistinguished,whichcanproviderealisticdatafortheoreticalmodelling.Basedonthefinitedeformationelasticitytheory,thedistributionofcontactpressureandshearstressoverthecontactinterfacearederivedforpredictionofpossiblecracks.
