Theeffectofthehot-chargingtreatmentontheperformanceofAB2andAB5hydrogenstoragealloyelectrodeswasinvestigated.Theresultshowedthatthetreatmentcanmarkedlyimprovethevoltageplateauratio(VPR),thehighratedischargeability(HRDA),thediffusioncoefficientofhydrogenDHandthedischargecapacityoftheAB2hydrogenstoragealloyelectrode.TheSEManalysisshowedthatthehot-chargingtreatmentbringsaboutaNi-richsurfaceduetothedissolutionofZroxides.ItisalsoveryhelpfulfortheimprovementofthekineticpropertiesofAB2hydrogenstoragealloyelectrodebecausethemicrocrackingo.fthesurfaceresultsinfreshsurface.ThiscanbethebasicmodificationtreatmentforNiMHbatteryusedinelectricvehicles(EVs)inthefuture.ButforAB5typealloys,thetreatmenthasthedisadvantageofimpairingthecomprehensiveelectrochemicalproperties,becausethesurfaceofthealloymaybecorrodedduringthetreatment.Themechanismofthesurfacemodificationoftheelectrodeisalsoproposed.
