Atypeofportwithamovablecoverisdesignedtoincreaseinitialdilutionandpreventseawaterandsedimentsfromintrudingintooutfallsystems.Horizontalradialjetspro-ducedbythistypeofportinacurrentareinvestigatedexperimentallyandtheoretically.TheanalysisbasedonReynolds’equationsandself-similarityhypothesisshowsthatthemaximumve-locityofradialjetsdecayswithr-1.5.Therelationshipsbetweenthewidth,thickness,averagedi-lutionofasubmergedwastefieldalongflow,andtheparametersoftheport,jetandambientareestablishedquantitativelyandverifiedbyexperiments.Itisdemonstratedthatthedilutionofhorizontalradialjetsismuchhigherthanthatofverticalroundjetsandthesurfaceboilpointoftheformerismuchmoredistantthanthatofthelatter.
