Amulti-objectiveoptimizationofnon-uniformbeamsispresentedforminimumradiatedsoundpowerandweight.Thetransfermatrixmethodisusedtocomputethestructuralandacousticresponsesofanon-uniformbeamaccuratelyandefficiently.Themulti-objectiveparticleswarmoptimizationtechniqueisappliedtosearchtheParetooptimalsolutionsthatrepresentvariouscompromisesbetweenweightandsoundradiation.Severalconstraintsareimposed,whichsubstantiallyreducethevolumefractionoffeasiblesolutionsinthedesignspace.Twononuniformbeamswithdifferentboundaryconditionsarestudiedtodemonstratethemulti-objectiveoptimaldesignsofthestructure.
