Minipigmodelsarelargemammalsandtheirearsaremoresimilarwithhumanbeingsinstructureanddevelopmentthanotheranimals.However,thestudyonporcineearsisstillintheinitialstageandthereisnodescriptionofanidealoperationapproachtoendocochlearpotentialandpotassiumionconcentrationmeasurements.Inthisarticle,wedescribeapre-auricularsurgicalapproachtoaccessthemiddleandinnerearforendocochlearpotentialandpotassiumionconcentrationmeasuresinminipigmodels.Tenone-weekoldnormalminipigswereusedinthestudy.Thebullaofthetemporalbonewasaccessedviaapre-auricularapproachforendocochlearpotentialandpotassiumionconcentrationmeasurements.Theconditionoftheanimalsduringthefirstpost—experiment24hwasobserved.Oneanimaldiedduringsurgery.Thepreauricularapproachimprovedprotectionandpreservationofrelevantnervousandvascularelementsincludingthefacialnerveandcarotidartery.So,thepre-auricularapproachcanbeusedforendocochlearpotentialandpotassiumionconcentrationmeasurementswithimprovednerveandarterypreservationminipigs.
