ThefrictionandwearbehaviorofFe-Alintermetallicsbasedcoatingproducedbyhighvelocityarcsprayingtechniqueunderdryslidingatroomtemperaturewereinvestigatedusingaball-on-disctribotester.Theeffectofslidingspeedonfrictioncoefficientandwearofthecoatingwasstudied.Thewornsurfaceofthecoatingwasanalyzedbyscanningelectronmicroscope(SEM)toexploreslidingfrictionandwearmechanism.Theresultsshowthatthevariationsoffrictioncoefficientcanbepidedintothreedistinctstepsduringthetrail.Boththefrictioncoefficientandthewearofthecoatingincreasewithincreasedslidingspeedduetoacceleratedcrackpropagationrateandlamellarstructurewithpoorductilityofthecoating.Thecoatingsurfaceissubjectedtoalternatelytensilestressandcompressionstressduringslidingwearprocess,andthepredominantwearmechanismofthecoatingsappearstobebrittlefractureanddelamination.
