Surface-graftedpoly(ethyleneglycol)(PEG)moleculesareknowntopreventproteinadsorptiontothesurface.NitinolsampleswerecoatedundertetraglymeECRcoldplasmaconditionstoenhanceitsbiocompatibility.ThemodifiedNitinolsurfaceswerecharacterizedbyhighresolutionESCAandcontactangle,itwasdemonstratedthatthedepositedPEG-likecoatingswerebuiltupmainlyof-CH2-CH2-O-linkagesinsurfaces.ThesurfacewettabilityofthemodifiedNitinolwasincreasedcomparedwiththecontrolsurface.HumanplasmaproteinwasadsorbedonNitinolevaluatedbySEM,theproteinadsorptiononmodifiedsurfacesdecreasedrapidly.Thus,thepotentialbenefitsofcoldplasmatechniquewillbeofusetothebiomedicalindustriesimprovingthebiocompatibilityofmetals.
