ThispaperinvestigatesthecharacteristicsofreductionofthelateralvibrationbyuseofaTunedMassDamper(TMD)foroffshorejacketplatformsunderimpactloading.Unliketraditionalanalysis,thepresentanalysisfocnsesontheenergyconceptofTMD/structuresystems.Inthisstudy,atimedomainistaken.Theplatformismodeledasasimplifiedsingle-degree-of-freedom(SDOF)systembyextractionofthefirstvibrationmodeofthestructureandtheexcitedforceisassumedtobeimpactloading.Theenergydissipationandenergytransmissionofthestructure-TMDsystemarestudied.Finally,anoptimizedTMDdesignforthemodeledplatformisdemonstratedbasedonanewtypeofcostfunction-maxi-mumdissipatedenergybyTMD.ResultsindicatethatTMDcontroliseffectiveinreducingthestandarddeviationofthedeckmotionbutlesseffectiveinreducingthemaximumresponseunderimpactloading.
