Thispapersummarizesthedesignequationsforlocalscourdeptharoundbridgeabutmentsasproposedbydifferentinvestigators,andalsothedifferentfactors,affectingthescourdepth.Methodsfortheestimationoflocalscourdepthbasedondimensionalanalysisarealsopresented.Thedesignmethodsbasedonempiricalrelationssuchasflowdepth,flowintensity,sedimentcharacteristics,abutmentsshapeandsize,alignment,andapproachchannelgeometryarealsodiscussed.Sinceclear-waterscouristhemaximumscourdepth,theequationforclear-waterscourisrecommendedforthecomputationoflocalscourdeptharoundbridgeabutmentsforuniformlyandnon-uniformlygradedsediments.
