Inthepastdecades,twolargescalecoastalengineeringprojectshavebeencarriedoutintheDeepBaysurroundedbyShenzhenCityandHongKongSpecialAdministrativeRegion.OneprojectisShenzhenRiverchannelregulationandtheotheristheseareclamationalongtheseashoreontheShenzhenside.Thetwoprojectsareveryclosetothetwonationalnaturereserves,specificallyFutianinShenzhenandMaiPoinHongKong,whichareimportantwetlandecosystemsworldwide.ThispaperaimstoidentifyandmonitorthemangrovewetlandchangeswithtimeseriesofLandsatThematicMapperimagespreandposttothetwoengineeringprojectsbeinglaunched.Coupledanalysisoftheimageinterpretationresultsandtidaldataacquiredatthesametimeinthecontextofthetwoworksrevealsthatthemangrovewetlandareahasincreasedfromyear1989to1994,andhaschangedlittlefromyear1994to2002.Binarycodingisappliedtorevealthedistributionimageofmangroveateachphase,andthecodingimageshowsthattheconstructionofthetwocoastalengineeringprojectshascausedfrequentchangesinmangrovespatialdistribution.Thestudyalsoshowsthatthechangeisnotsignificantregardingtotheprecisionofthemethodandthenaturalevolutionofmangrovewetland,andtheprojectsdonotcauseapparentlyinfluencesuponthetwonationalmangroveconservationzonesatleastfortheresearchtimeperiod.
