NumercialsimulationofseasurfacedirectionalwavespectraundertyphoonwindforcingintheSouthChinaSea(SCS)wascarreidoutusingtheWAVEWATCH-IIIwavemodel.Thesimulationwasrunfor210huntiltheTyphoonDamrey(2005)approachedVietnam.Thesimulateddatawerecomparedwithbuoyobservations,whichwereobtainedinthenorthwestseaareaofHainanIsland.Theresultsshowthatthesignificantwaveheight,wavedirection,wavelengthandfrequencyspetraagreewellwithbuoyobservations.Thespatialcharacteristicsofthesignifciantwaveheight,meanwaveperiod,meanwavelength,waveageanddirectionalspectradependontherelativepositionfromthetyphooncenter.Also,themisalignmentbetweenlocalwindandwavedirectionswereinvestigated.
