Anewcomputationschemeproposedtotacklecommensurateproblemsisdevelopedbymodifyingthesemi-analyticapproachforminimizingcomputationalcomplexity.Usingtheproposedscheme,thelimitstateequations,usuallyreferredtoasthefailuresurface,areobtainedfromtransformationofanintervalvariabletoanormalizedone.Inordertominimizethecomputationalcost,twoalgorithmsforoptimizingthecalculationstepshavebeenproposed.Themonotonicityoftheobjectivefunctioncanbedeterminedfromnarrowingthescopeofintervalvariablesinnormalizedinfinitespacebyincorporatingthealgorithmsintothecomputationalscheme.Twoexamplesareusedtoillustratetheoperationandcomputationalefficiencyoftheapproach.Theresultsoftheseexamplesshowthattheproposedalgorithmscangreatlyreducethecomputationcomplexitywithoutsacrificingthecomputationalaccuracy.Theadvantageoftheproposedschemecanbeevenmoreefficientforanalyzingsophisticstructures.
