CorrosionbehaviourandbiofoulingcharacteristicsofmildsteelinthreedifferentcoastallocationsintheGulfofMannar,Indiahavebeenstudiedoveraperiodof24months.OysterfoulingwaspredominantatOpensea-Tuticorin,whilebarnaclefoulingwasdominantatbothMandapamandHarbour-Tuticorin.Therateofcorrosionfor24monthsexposureperiodwashighestatMandapam,wherefoulingwasminimal.Thesurfaceofthemildsteelwascharacterizedbyetchings&crevicesbeneaththehardfoulersattachedonit,atallthetestlocations.ThedepthofcrevicecausedbyhardfoulerswashigheratOpensea-TuticorinfollowedbyHarbour-TuticorinandMandapam.ThelossinultimatetensilestrengthwasmoreinOpensea-Tuticorinthantheothertwolocations.Corrosionbehaviourofmildsteelisdiscussedbasedonthevariationinthebiofoulingassemblageatthethreetestlocations.
