简介:Tocontrolmovement,thebrainhastointegrateproprioceptiveinformationfromavarietyofmechanoreceptors.Theroleofproprioceptionindailyactivities,exercise,andsportshasbeenextensivelyinvestigated,usingdifferenttechniques,yettheproprioceptivemechanismsunderlyinghumanmovementcontrolarestillunclear.Inthecurrentworkwehavereviewedunderstandingofproprioceptionandthethreetestingmethods:thresholdtodetectionofpassivemotion,jointpositionreproduction,andactivemovementextentdiscrimination,allofwhichhavebeenusedforassessingproprioception.Theoriginofthemethods,thedifferenttestingapparatus,andtheproceduresandprotocolsusedineachapproacharecomparedanddiscussed.Recommendationsaremadeforchoosinganappropriatetechniquewhenassessingproprioceptivemechanismsindifferentcontexts.

简介:Hearinglossisaconditionaffectingmillionsofpeopleworldwide.Conductivehearingloss(CHL)ismainlycausedbymiddleeardiseases.ThelowfrequencyareaisthepivotalpartofspeechfrequenciesandmostfrequentlyimpairedinpatientswithCHL.AmongvarioustreatmentsofCHL,middleearsurgeryisefficienttoimprovehearing.However,variablesuccessratesandpossibleneedsforprolongedrevisionsurgerystillfrustratebothsurgeonsandpatients.Nowadays,increasingnumbersofresearchersexplorevariousmethodstomonitortheefficacyofossicularreconstructionintraoperatively,includingelectrocochleography(ECochG),auditorybrainstemresponse(ABR),auditorysteadystateresponse(ASSR),distortionproductotoacousticemissions(DPOAE),subjectivewhispertest,andopticalcoherencetomography(OCT).Here,weillustrateseveralmethodsusedclinicallybyreviewingtheliterature.
简介:Thestudyofneuronalplasticityunderpathologicalconditionsisnowamajorpointoffocusonthefieldofneurologicalrecovery.Aftertherepeatedfailureofacuteneuroprotectionstrategiesforstroketreatment,thedesignofstudiesaimedatpromotingthereconstructionofneuronalnetworkshasbecomeessential.Methodsforthedeliveryoftherapeuticagentsonasteadydosage,thuspreventingpharmacologicalpeaksorexcessivemanipulationofexperimentalanimals,arethusrequired.Additionally,methodsthatallowthevisualizationofneurologicalremodelingprocessesarefundamentaltotheunderstandingofhowatherapeuticagentexertsitsfunction.Herewedescribehowtheuseofminiosmoticpumpsforthesteadydeliveryofsuchagents,togetherwithtracttracerinjections,canbecombinedtounveilimportantinformationonhowthebrainchangesafterstrokeandhowtherapeuticagentspromotebrainremodelingrecovery.
