Duetotheiruniqueadvantagesinphysicsandbiology,heavyionbeams,withhighmutationrateandwidemutationspectrum,havebeenwidelyusedinplantbreedingasanovelandefficientphysicalmutagen.Inthiswork,Arabidopsisthaliana(197#),whichdisplayeddecreasedfertility,wasinducedbycarbonionbeamsacceleratedbytheHeavyIonResearchFacilityinLanzhou(HIRFL).InordertodeterminethediscrepanciesbetweenWTandmutantplants,aseriesofdevelopmentindexeswereanalyzedduringthereproductivegrowthstage.
