简介:TheNearbySupernovaFactoryProjectwillprovideauniqueopportunitytobringtogethersimulationandobservationtoaddresscrucialproblmsinparticleandnuclearphysics.ItsdgoalistosignificantlyenhanceourunderstandingofthenuclearprocessesinsupernovaeandtoimproveourabilitytousebothTypeIaandTypeIIsupernovaeasreferencelightsources(standardcandles)inprecisionmeasurementsofcosmologicalparameters.Overthepastseveralyears,astronomersandastrophysicistshavebeenconductingin-depthskysearcheswiththegoalofidentifyingsupernovaeintheirearliestevolutionarystagesand,duringthe4to8weeksoftheirmost"explosive~activity,measuretheirchangingmagnitudeandspectra.ThesearchprogramcurrentlyunderdevelopmentatLBNLisanearth-basedobservationprogramutilizingobservationalinstrumentsatHaleakalaandMaunaKea,HawaiiandMt.Palomar,California,Thisnewprogramprovidesademandingtestbedfortheintegrationofcomputational,datamanagementandcollaboratorytechnologies.Aciticalelementofthiseffortistheuseofemergingworkflowmanagementtoolstopermitcollaboratingscientiststomanagedataprocessingandstorageandtointegrateadvancedsupernovasimulationintothereal-timecontroloftheexperiments.Thispaperdescribestheworkflowmanagementframeworkfortheproject,discussessecurityandresourceallocationrequirementsandreviewsemergingtoolstosupportthisimportantaspectofcollaborativework.

简介:Recentlythetroublesrelatedtothenetworksecurityhaveoftenoccurredattacks.Itconsistsoftwofundamentalthinge;themonitoringandtheaccesscontrol.Tomonitorthenetwork,wehaveinstalledtheintrusiondetectioinsystemandhavemanageditsince1998,Forthesecondthing,wearrangedthreecategoriestoclassifyallhosts(about5000hosts)atKEKaccordingtotheirsecuritylevel.Torealizethesethreecategories,wefiltertheincomingpacketfromoutsideKEKwhetherithasaSYNflagornot.Thenetworkmonitoringandtheaccesscontrolproducedgoodeffectsinkeepingoursecuritylevelhigh.Since2000wehavestartedthetransitonofLANfromshared-medianetworktoswitchednetwork.NowalmostpartofLANwasre-configuredandinthisnewLAN10Mbps/100Mbps/1GbpsEthernetaresupported.Currentlyweareplanningfurtherspeedup(10Gbps)andredundancyofnetwork.NotonlyLANbutalsoWAN,networkspeedwillbeupgradedto10GbpsthankstothestrongpromotionofITbyJapanesegovernment,Inthisveryhighspeednetwork,ourcurrentstrategywillbeaffectedandagainthenetworksecuritybecomesabigissue,Thispaperdescribesourexperiencesinpracticeofthecurrentstrategyandmanagementknow-howtogetherwiththediscussiononthenewstrategy.

简介:TheItalianGovernmenthasrecentlyapprovedtheconstructionofaNationalCenterforOncologicalHadrontherapy(CNAO),TERA(FoundationforOncologicalHadrontherapy)willleadthehightechnologyprojectsoftheCNAO,whosemachinedesignisaspin-offtothemedicalworldofthecollaborationwithCERN.TheCERNEDMS(EngineeringDataManagementSystem)wasinitiallylaunchedatCERNtosupporttheLHCprojectbuthassincebecomeageneralserviceavailableforalldivisionsandrecognizedexperiments.AsTERAiscloselyassociatedtoCERN,TERAdecidedtoprofitfromEDMSandtouseittosupporttheambitiousQualityAssuranceplanfortheCNAOproject.WiththisEDMSprojectTERAtransfersknow-howthathasbeendevelopedintheHEPCommunitytoasocialsectorofmajorimportancethatalsohashigh-densityinformationmanagementneeds.ThefeaturesavailableintheCERNEDMSsystemprovidethetoolsformanagingthecompletelifecycleofanytechnicaldocumentincludingadistributedapprovalprocessandacontrolleddistributedcollaborativeworkenvironmentusingtheWorldWideWeb.Thesystemallowsmanagementofstructuresrepresentingprojectsandrelativedocumentsincludingdrawingswithinworkingcontextsandwithacustomizablereleaseprocedure.TERAiscustomizingCERNEDMStodocumenttheCNAOprojectactivities,toensurethatthemedicalaccelecratoranditsauxiliaryinstallationscanbeproperlymanagedthroughoutitslifecycle,fromdesigntomaintenanceandpossiblydismantling.ThetechnicalperformancerequirementsofEDMSareidenticaltothoseforLHCandCERNingeneral.Wewilldescribewhatwehavelearnedabouthowtoset-upanEDMSproject,andhowitbenefitsachallenginginitiativeliketheCNAOProjectoftheTERAcollaboration.Theknowledgemanagedbythesystemwillfacilitatelaterinstallationsofsimilarcenters(plannedforLyonandStockholm)andwillallowthereuseofexperiencegainedinItaly.
